Charging the Tide 22/23 August 2020

Surprising sailing in the sunshine for #MMYC Winter Series and 2 handed Races. A charging tide in variable breezes made for some challenging sailing at times, with most boats taking a bit of time out at Banks Buoy and one or two stopping for lunch.

In all, a pretty good weekend of sailing, thanks everyone! Results on both days as follows: Truxton in first, followed by Not Negotiable in second and River Rebel, third. No frills on Sunday won by Sophie Rose.

As we approach the last races of the 2020 winter series, we look forward to events on the near horizon: Champagne breakfast prizegiving at the MOSC on the 20th September from 0900. Please forward your numbers from each boat to info@mmyc.org.nz. Tickets are $20 but there are a couple of free tickets per boat.

Then we look forward to October and the Legends Regatta: Entries are now open and early bird prices are in effect. Make 2020 your year to enter, with no holidays abroad, what better way to spend a long weekend with your family and friends?

Some great photos of the race and Race Committee on Facebook, thanks to all that have posted.

Winter Sailing 01/09 August 2020

Exciting close quarter racing (at times) for the #MMYC Winter Series Race. Sunny light wind conditions strengthened and clouded over for the afternoon, conditions favouring the bigger boats and what looked like from the back of the pack an exciting race to the finish. Awesome work Truxton in first (with bonus chocolate fish points for a buried nose) followed by Not Negotiable, River Rebel and Pork Chop (one second separating 3rd and 4th). Yay for Sunshine! Winning in B division, followed by Déjà vu. Hope the crew on Sophie Rose are feeling rested after a little sleepzzzzz. Great to see lots of boats out there, just two races left as we look forward to Legends Regatta this coming Labour weekend.  This years major sponsor is Pro Marine Electrical.  With a B&G Zeus³ 9 Chart plotter with world base map up for grabs. #fizzing

Last Saturdays 2 up racing saw (some boats) reefed down for squally conditions, some great photos of the carnage on the Yeahthegirls (Rascal Tom) Facebook page.

Thank you to the tiptop crew in the tower, the handicappers and to all the crews (and support crews) that make MMYC racing so much flippin’ fun!

If you have any photos from the race you would like to share, feel free to post them via the Facebook page, always makes for some good sea stories.

Stella Sailing Sunday

Stella Sunday sailing conditions under a fresh and fine south westerly breeze, a little 16NM’er seeing us stretching our sea legs out to A pole, Karewa, A then home. Fortune favoured those on the return journey who stayed close to Mauao, leaving Matakana dwellers to struggle against a strong outgoing tide. Great to see everyone back at the club for prizegiving and sea stores. What an absolute corker! Thanks to the tower crew and handicappers for another great race.

Looking forward, it’s the 2 handed race next Saturday 1st August and a reminder that the MOSC AGM is on this coming Thursday 30th July at 1900. If you need persuading, there’s an excellent bar and tasty food on prem 😊

Start Times for Race One

The start times for the first races in the 2020 Winter Series, both 2 handed (on Saturday) and Open Series (On Sunday) have been posted on the Start Times page.

Please note that under Covid Level 2.10 we are permitted to hold the prize giving provided we keep a degree of social distancing and follow the protocols which are in place at the MOSC.  Accordingly, there will be a prize giving after the racing on SUNDAY, which will cover both the 2 handed and open series results.

Hoping the weekend weather is not too foul.

See you then.

Adam Yates.
