The 2019 winter series dates have been set! Find the details here:http://www.mmyc.org.nz/winter-series/ This year, we are trying a slightly different format.  We will have two divisions split according to spinnaker racing and no extra racing. We hope to see boats out that would not want to have to fly spinnakers, but enjoy being out on the water for a bit of healthy competition. And now for something completely different. March 23rd will see the inaugural Mount Maunganui Yacht Club Island Beach Cricket challenge. The concept is a simple one – to celebrate the especially low tide on Saturday March 23 the stumps will go down on the new bank in the middle of the harbour that the dredging has courteously created.  Two sides will be drawn to oppose each side of low – The Ebbs v The Floods. Refreshments and some sort of trophy will be awarded at the prize giving to be held at Pilot bay once stumps are drawn. We are hoping for a fun day out with boats intentionally mooring at the pesky bank for a change.  Start time is 1300 (low tide is 1401 – 0.1m). Happy Christmas to all yachties in Mt Maunganui. We celebrated the year end with a raft up at Omokoroa beach.  The weather was kind and the the water was warm. 5 boats turned up and enjoyed the afternoon sun, drinks and a meal.  The children and Richard Harrison entertained everyone with bombs from the bimini of The Wizard. The highlight of the afternoon was the inaugural coke bottle boat race.  Many well thought out craft appeared – largely adhering the “no motor’s, no glue’ rules. The prize (of a trophy and toy bottle of rum) was taken by Gary in the multi hull division.   Bottle boat winners River Rebel, Hanse Free, The Wizzard, Pork Chop and Rahona.   The next adventure event will be Saturday 12 January or Sunday 13 January.  Details to be provided.
